Oct. 15, 2003
Fairfield, CT - The Brown field hockey team (7-4) won its second game in a row on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Fairfield, 3-1, in a non-league contest. Senior forwards Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) and Molly Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) led the Bears to the victory with three and four points respectively.
Brown took an early lead when Pierpont netted an unassisted goal at 24:34 of the first half. Fairfield would tie the contest less than three minutes later at 21:44, but junior goalie Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT) and the rest of the Brown defense were able to shut the Stags' offense down for the remainder of the game.
Carleton scored her first of two goals, an unassisted tally which would prove to be the game-winner, with 8:44 left in the first half. She added another goal with 18:25 remaining in the game to clinch the win for Brown. Pierpont earned an assist on Carleton's second goal.
Brown outshot the Stags 25-11 and held an 11-10 advantage in penalty corners. Noe made four saves in net, earning the win.
The Bears continue action on Saturday, October 18, hosting #11 Princeton in a 12:00 noon Ivy League Contest.
