Three Second-Half Goals Lift Bears Past Fairfield, 4-1

Oct. 13, 2004

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University Field Hockey Team (4-6) scored four unanswered goals, including three during a 15:46 span early in the second half, to defeat visiting Fairfield (6-10), 4-1, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at Warner Roof.

Fairfield controlled the pace of the game early on, finally taking advantage of a Brown misplay 10:45 into the game for a 1-0 lead. However, from that point on, it was all Brown, as the Bears answered just 6:06 later and never looked back.

Freshman Ani Kazarian (Providence, RI), who earned two First Team Rhode Island All-State honors in field hockey while playing for the Lincoln School, started the comeback with her first career goal. Junior Brooke Townsend (Stamford, CT) crossed the ball to Kazarian and she knocked it into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1 at 16:51 of the first.

The two teams headed into the break knotted at 1-1, but it only took Kazarian 1:38 after the half to net her second goal of the game, giving Brown a 2-1 lead, which would be all they would need for the victory.

Junior leading scorer Kristen Vincent (Glens Falls, NY) picked up her team-leading sixth goal of the season on a direct corner with 20:23 left to play to give the Bears a 3-1 lead, and junior Lindsay Boris (Shavertown, PA) added her third goal of the season just 2:47 later for the final 4-1.

Senior Julia Kelderman (Chevy Chase, MD), who leads the team with eight assists, assisted on the final two goals, while junior Tess Belmont (Poughkeepsie, NY) earned her seventh assist of the season on Vincent's goal.

In net for the Bears, freshman Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) made five saves. Brown continues action on Saturday, October 16, when it travels to New Jersey to take on Princeton at 12:00 noon.
