PROVIDENCE, RI - Junior leading scorer Samantha Lloyd (Shavertown, PA) scored two second-half goals, but it wasn't enough as the Brown field hockey team (3-4) fell to #12 Northeastern (9-1), 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Warner Roof.
The Huskies dominated the pace of the game in the first half, outshooting Brown 13-1 during the first 35:00, and scoring their first goal of the game just 3:00 into the contest. After that, the Bears settled in, but Northeastern added to its lead with another goal at 24:34.
Trailing 2-0 at the break, the Bears would not quit, and controlled most of the second half, while generating several scoring chances. Finally, with exactly 15:00 left in the game, their persistence paid off. Senior Brooke Townsend (Stamford, CT) sent a long pass up field to Lloyd, who was behind the Northeastern defense. Lloyd pulled the Huskies' goalie out of the net for a one-on-one. She faked to the left and went around the Husky keeper before firing the ball into the wide open net.
Northeastern added its third goal of the game less than seven minutes later to regain the two-goal cushion, but with 3:55 left to play, Lloyd added her second goal, scoring in nearly the same exact way.
Brown narrowly missed tying the game when Lloyd tipped a free hit from senior Libbie Fritz (Gladstone, NJ), but the ball sailed over the cage as time expired.
Junior Evelyn Brosi (Baltimore, MD) made her third straight start in net and stopped five shots while allowing two goals in 26:32. Sophomore Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) played the remainder of the game and made four saves, while allowing one goal.
The Bears will look to rebound this Sunday, October 2, when they host Colgate at 12:00 noon on Warner Roof.
