Field Hockey Picks Up Second Consecutive Win, Defeating Vermont 2-0

Sept. 28, 2001

PROVIDENCE, RI - Junior tri-captain Ashley Wallace (Avon, CT) scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to lead Brown (2-3) to a 2-0 victory over Vermont (2-6) on Friday, September 28, at Warner Roof.

Carrying momentum into today's game, from Wednesday's 4-2 victory over #19 Connecticut, the Bears got on the board less than three minutes into the contest.

Controlling play from the opening whistle, the Bears were awarded two penalty corners in the first two minutes. In their second chance, senior tri-captain Megan Patterson (Hollliston, MA) stopped the ball and quickly passed it to junior Cory Pelletier (Walpole, MA).

Pelletier found Wallace on her right, who took one dribble and fired the ball past Vermont junior Holly Colberg, giving Brown an early 1-0 lead with 32:45 remaining in the first half. Wallace's goal would prove to be all the Bears would need however, as Brown cruised to it's first shutout of the 2001 season.

The Bears added an insurance goal on another corner just ten minutes later, at 22:10, when Wallace again took a shot, which sophomore Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) tipped into the net, giving Brown the 2-0 margin that would hold until the final whistle.

Freshman Kathryn Noe (Simsbury, CT) made two saves in the game, earning her first career shutout, while Colberg tallied seven saves for the Catamounts.

Brown will be back in action this Sunday, September 30, when it travels to Rutgers for a 1:00 game.
