Field Hockey Drops First Ivy Match Of 2001, Falling To Harvard 1-0
Sept. 22, 2001
CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Brown field hockey team (0-3, 0-1) fell to the Crimson of Harvard (2-2, 1-0) by a score of 1-0 on Saturday, September 22, at Harvard's Jordan Field.
The Crimson scored the game-winning goal less than 10 minutes into the game when Philomena Gambale took the ball in the goal area and sent a hard drive into the back of the net for an unassisted tally.
The Crimson had a chance to increase its lead when it was awarded a penalty stroke with 13:01 left in the first half, but freshman Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) stopped the shot to keep the Bears within one. Brown had its best chance at notching the equalizer on a two-on-one break with just under a minute to go in the opening half, but Harvard's defense broke up the threat. Both teams had chances in the second half, but Noe and Harvard's goalie kept the offense at bay.
Making her first collegiate start, Noe made six saves in the game, while Harvard's Katie Zacarian also stopped six shots.
Brown will be back in action this Wednesday, September 26, when it hosts The University of Connecticut in a 4:00 game.
