Field Hockey Falls To Rhode Island, 3-2

SOUTH KINGSTON, RI - The Brown field hockey team (0-2) was defeated by intra-state rival Rhode Island on Wednesday, September 19, falling to URI by a score of 3-2 in South Kingston.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead just ten minutes into the game and increased their lead to 2-0 less than three minutes later. Rhode Island added it's third goal of the game with 10:21 remaining in the first half to lead Brown by a 3-0 score at the break.

Junior Nikki Gamer (Danvers, MA/Danvers) connected with sophomore Molly Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH/The Laurel School) to get Brown on the board with 24:23 remaining in the game.

The Bears tallied their final goal of the game with 1:10 remaining as freshman Tess Belmont (Poughkeepsie, NY/Hotchkiss School) recorded her first career point, assisting on a Cory Pelletier (Walpole, MA/Walpole) goal. senior Annie Owens (Louisville, KY) with 25:12 remaining in the first half.

In net for Brown, senior Annie Owens (Louisville, KY) made one save in 11:26, and gave up one goal, while classmate Sasha Friedman (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) allowed two goals. Freshman Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) made her first appearance in a game and stopped two shots with no goals allowed in the second half.

Brown will begin Ivy League play this Saturday, September 22, when it travels to Harvard for a 12:00 noon game.
