Bears Drop 3-1 Decision to Boston University
Sept. 18, 2004
BOSTON, MA - Playing in a driving rain, the Brown University field hockey team (1-4) dropped a 3-1 decision to Boston University (3-3) at Jack Barry Field on Saturday, afternoon. The Bears scored the first goal of the game off a penalty stroke, but the Terriers responded with the next three scores for the 3-1 final.
Boston University jumped on the attack from the very beginning, putting a flurry of shots on goal and forcing freshman goalie Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) to make nine first-half saves on 14 Boston University shots.
However, it was the Bears who would take advantage of the Terriers' aggressive play. With 18:00 remaining in the first, Brown drew a penalty for tackling from behind in front of the Terriers' cage. Junior Kristen Vincent (Glens Falls, NY) capitalized on the ensuing penalty stroke, blasting it past the Terriers' Erin Prediger and into the top right corner of the cage to give Brown a 1-0 lead.
Boston University evened the score with less than five minutes to go in the first half, sending the two teams into the intermission tied at 1-1.
The Terriers would add two more goals in the second half, scoring the eventual game-winner with 15:56 remaining, and their final goal of the game with 10:36 left to play.
In net for the Bears, Hodavance made 12 saves, while Vincent added a career-high four defensive saves. Brown continues action on Wednesday, September 22, when it hosts the University of Rhode Island at 4:00 p.m.
