Sept. 18, 2002

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Bears (1-2) scored two unanswered goals in a span of 4:16 to defeat the University of Rhode Island (0-6), 2-1, in a non-league contest Wednesday afternoon at Brown's Warner Roof.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead with 14:11 remaining in the first half on a goal by senior Jess Weber. She was awarded a penalty shot and converted to put Rhode Island on the board.

The rest of the half remained scoreless as did the first 18:24 of the second stanza, until Brown junior Lizzie Buza (Houston, TX) scored an unassisted goal, her second goal of the season, with 16:36 remaining to knot the contest at 1-1.

With the Bears holding onto momentum, fellow junior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) scored her second of the season just 4:16 later after a scramble in front of the net. Sophomore Evan O'Connell (Greenwich, CT) earned an assist on the play, her second of the season.

Sophomore goalie Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT) made two saves in net for the Bears, while Rhode Island's Danielle Dangoia stopped six shots for the Rams.

Brown continues action on Saturday when it hosts Columbia in an Ivy League contest at noon on Warner Roof.
