BETHLEHEM, PA - The Brown field hockey team (3-1) rebounded from its first loss of the season with a strong outing against Lehigh, defeating the Mountain Hawks, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania. Four different Bears scored in the win, including senior Stacy Gugliotta (East Falmouth, MA), who notched a goal and an assist.
The first half was all Brown, as the Bears kept the ball in their offensive end and held a 12-2 advantage in shots. Junior Andrea Posa (Weston, MA) scored the game's first goal at the 22:06 mark when she slipped a loose ball past the Lehigh keeper. Five minutes later, senior Samantha Lloyd (Shavertown, PA) converted on a penalty stroke, beating Lehigh's goalie stick-side to give Brown a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Junior Sandhya Dhir (Agoura Hills, CA) increased the Bears' lead to 3-0 eight minutes into the second half with a back-handed shot that got past the Mountain Hawks' goalie.
Lehigh ruined Bruno's shutout bid with less than 10 minutes left in the game, but Brown came right back, scoring just 29 seconds later on a pass from freshman Abby Hein (Greenwood Village, CO) to Gugliotta. The assist was Hein's first career point, while the goal was Gugliotta's first of the season.
Brown dominated the game, earning a 25-6 advantage in shots, forcing Lehigh's Stephanie Palmieri to make 17 saves. The Bears also recorded nine penalty corners to Lehigh's two. In net, junior Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) posted three saves to earn the victory. The Bears return home for the first time since September 3rd, when they host in-state rival Rhode Island at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20th.
