Bears Drop First Game of the Season, 2-1, at Sacred Heart
Sept. 13, 2006
FAIRFIELD, CT - After opening the season with two straight victories, the Brown field hockey team (2-1) dropped its first game of the 2006 season, falling 2-1 to Sacred Heart (5-2) on Wednesday afternoon in Connecticut.
The Pioneers, who had played six games so far this season, wasted little time in taking a lead, scoring just 10:55 into the first half. However, Brown battled back to tie the game at 1-1 less than five minutes later when senior Rebecca Mondics (Bethesda, MD) tallied her first goal of the season at 15:10.
That score would stand until the 57th minute when a goal by Sacred Heart's Katie Bohren, who assisted the Pioneers' first goal, broke the tie with an unassisted goal.
Bohren's tally would prove to be the difference as the Bears failed to net the equalizer in the final 13 minutes of action.
Sacred Heart held an 18-13 advantage in shots and earned nine penalty corners to Brown's six. Junior Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) recorded six saves in net. The Bears will look to rebound this weekend when they travel to Pennsylvania to face Lehigh at 12:00 noon.
