Bears Drop Third Straight, Falling to Vermont, 3-2, in Overtime
Sept. 12, 2004
HANOVER, NH - The Brown Field Hockey team (1-3) dropped its third straight contest, falling to Vermont (1-5) in a non-league game on Sunday afternoon at Dartmouth.
After nearly an entire half of scoreless action, the Catamounts grabbed a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first half at 27:02.
However, the Bears would score the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the second stanza. Junior Tess Belmont (Poughkeepsie, NY) put the Bears on the board just 45 seconds into the half off an assist from senior Julia Kelderman (Chevy Chase, MD). Then just 7:41 later, sophomore Tracy Dungo (North Caldwell, NJ) gave Brown a 2-1 lead with her second goal of the season. Junior Kristen Vincent (Glens Falls, NY) assisted on the goal.
Vermont would not go away quietly, and the Catamounts tied the game just 8:36 later, to send the game into overtime. Just two minutes into the extra frame, Vermont tallied the game-winner, sending the young Brown team to its third loss in a row.
Freshman Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) recorded 12 saves in net for the Bears in her first complete game. Brown continues action on Saturday, September 18, when it travels to MIT to take on Boston University in a 2:00 p.m. neutral-site game.
