Sept. 10, 2005
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown field hockey team (1-1, 0-1) hosted Dartmouth (2-0, 1-0) in its 2005 Ivy opener on Saturday, September 10, but couldn't get past the Big Green defense as Dartmouth cruised to a 3-0 victory.
The Bears controlled the tempo of play early on, but the Big Green found their legs just past the 10-minute mark of the first half. Lindsay Gossage knocked a loose ball into the back of the net, seconds after sophomore Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) saved her first shot, giving Dartmouth a 1-0 lead at 13:49 of the game.
Gossage's goal would be all the Big Green would need, but Dartmouth tacked on two more in the second half for the 3-0 final. Stef Miller scored on a penalty corner at 53:49 and Abby Brown netted the third goal with just 21 seconds left to play.
Hodavance posted nine saves in the Brown net, while Lauren Balukjian stopped four shots for Dartmouth. The Bears continue their five-game homestand with two games next week. They host Sacred Heart on Wednesday, September 14 at 4:00 p.m., and Lehigh on Sunday, September 18 at 12:00 noon.
