FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO HOFSTRA IN SEASON OPENER

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown field hockey team (0-1) opened the 2001 season on Saturday, September 8, falling to Hofstra University (2-2) by a score of 2-1 on Warner Roof.
Just ten minutes into the game, the Pride took a 1-0 lead when junior Tara Byrne (Mohegan Lake, NY) fired the ball past Brown senior Annie Owens (Louisville, KY) with 25:12 remaining in the first half.
The midfielders dominated for the rest of the half, but with 5:40 left to play, sophomore Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) got the Bears on the board on an assist from senior Lauren LaRochelle (Augusta, ME).
In net for Brown, Owens finished with 9 saves, while junior Christine Hickey (Tinton Falls, NJ) also made 11 saves for the Pride.
Brown will begin Ivy League play next Saturday, September 15, when it hosts Dartmouth at 12:00 noon.
