BURLINGTON, VT - The Brown field hockey team (0-1) dropped a 3-1 decision to unbeaten Vermont (4-0) on Saturday afternoon in its 2007 season opener and Tara Harrington's debut as the Bears' head coach.

The Catamounts grabbed a 1-0 lead with just 3:02 remaining in the first half, as they outshot Brown 12-4 in the frame and held a 4-0 advantage in penalty corners. UVM would add two more goals in the second half, scoring at 40:33 to take a 2-0 lead on what would prove to be the game-winner, and again at 59:34.

The Bears finally broke through 1:01 after Vermont's third goal when senior Sandhya Dhir (Agoura Hills, CA) scored her first of the season, ending the Catamounts' shutout bid and snapping their shutout streak at 270:35 as they had opened the season with three straight shutouts.

Vermont outshot Brown 19-9 for the game with a 7-5 advantage in the second half. However, the Bears earned four penalty corners in the second half to Vermont's zero, as Brown and Vermont finished the game with four each.

Senior Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) recorded 11 saves in net, including stopping a penalty stroke.

Two members of the class of 2011 made their collegiate debuts this afternoon as Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) and Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) were both in the Bears' starting lineup.

Brown returns to action next Saturday, September 8, when it hosts Dartmouth in the 2007 Ivy opener at 12:00 noon. The game begins a stretch of five straight home games for the Bears.
