A 1994 graduate of Brown, Tara Harrington returned to her alma
mater as an assistant coach in 1998. After spending three seasons
as an assistant coach, Harrington was promoted to the Associate
Head Coach prior to the 2001 season.
Harrington started in goal for the Bears throughout her
four-year career, playing every minute of every game in net for the
1991-1993 seasons. The goalie for the 1991 Ivy League Champions,
Harrington earned second team All-Ivy honors in 1992 after earning
honorable mention honors the year before. Her 0.78 goals against
average in 1992, a Brown record, was the seventh lowest average in
the country, while her 0.75 Ivy League goals against average led
the League. In addition, she posted seven shutouts in 1992, which
remains a Brown record for shutouts in a season. She served as
captain her senior year and was the recipient of the Brown Field
Hockey Outstanding Defensive Player Award. Her 19 career shutouts
is also a Brown record.
Along the way, the native of Burkirk, New York also earned
Academic All-Ivy honors in both her junior and senior years, and
was an Academic All-American selection as a senior. Following the
1993 season, Harrington was selected to play in the Division I
North/South Senior All-Star Game.
Harrington graduated with a degree in history, and also
completed the Teacher Education Program while an undergraduate at
Brown. She began her coaching career at the University of Rhode
Island in 1994. She then returned to Brown for one season under
head coach Wendy Anderson, before moving to a high school teaching
and coaching position in Hoosick Falls, New York.
Harrington was the USFHA Futures Program Regional Coaching
Director for Connecticut and Rhode Island for eight years. In
addition, Harrington has coached at the USFHA's Super Camp, "B"
camp and Futures Development Invitational Camp during the summer.
She was selected to participate in the F.I.H. Preparation Course at
the 1999 Final Four at Northeastern University and has been a
clinician for the Futures Certification Coaching Course for the
past seven winters.

Head field hockey coach Tara Harrington '94 has announced the
hiring of Christy Utter as an assistant coach. A two-time NCAA
Champion and 1996 graduate of North Carolina, Utter has spent the
past eight years on the field hockey staff at the University of
Louisville, including the past year as the Associate Head Coach.
"We are very excited to have Christy Utter join the field hockey
staff at Brown," said Harrington. "She has a wealth of playing and
coaching experience at the highest levels. Our student-athletes are
fortunate to have the opportunity to work with her." While with the
Cardinal, Utter assisted with all aspects of the field hockey
program, which has consistently been ranked in the NCAA top 20 as
well as earning the top GPA in all of Division I field hockey for
two straight years. With Utter on the sidelines, Louisville won
back-to-back MAC Championships (2003 and 2004) and made its
first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal joined
the Big East Conference and won the 2006 Regular Season
Championship after only its second year in the conference. In
addition to her responsibilities at Louisville, Utter was also
active with USA Field Hockey's High Performance Training Center. As
an Assistant Coach for the Midwest Team in 2006, Utter helped to
guide the team to a third place finish in the National
Championships. Prior to coaching the Midwest Team, Utter was active
in the Futures Olympic Developmental Program, serving as the Head
Coach for the Houston site in 1997 and 1998 and the Head Coach for
the Louisville site from 1999-2006. A 1996 graduate of the
University of North Carolina with a BA in Communication Studies,
Utter helped to lead the Tarheels to back-to-back NCAA
Championships (1995 & 1996), while co-captaining the 1996
squad. An ACC All-Conference selection in 1996, Utter was named to
the 1995 NCAA All-Tournament Team as the Tarheels capped off an
undefeated season with a national championship. A native of Tulsa,
Oklahoma, Utter received a master's degree in Sport Administration
from the University of Louisville in 2004.

Ariel Meyers came to Brown as an assistant coach in the summer
of 2008. She comes to Brown after spending the past two years
working in Fairfax, Virginia in the field of Orthopedics, working
at Commonwealth Orthopedics and most recently at Sport and Spine
Rehab. "Brown field hockey is excited to welcome Ariel to our
coaching staff," said Harrington. "Her high level of playing
experiences along with her top knowledge of the game make her an
incredible addition to the Brown field hockey program." A four-year
member of the Wake Forest field hockey team, Meyers helped to lead
the Demon Decons to a four-year record of 82-8, while capturing
three straight NCAA Championships (2002, 2003, 2004). As a senior,
Meyers was named a Third Team All-American, while also earning
All-ACC and National Academic Squad honors. During the spring of
her senior year, Meyers also competed for the Wake Forest Track and
Field Team. Meyers was a two-year representative on Wake Forest's
Student Athlete Advisory Board and also volunteered on the Athletes
Care Team throughout college. In addition to her playing
experience, Meyers has coaching experience, serving as a counselor
at several field hockey camps at both Wake Forest and Duke, and
also coaching at the Winston-Salem Futures Site in 2005 and 2006. A
native of Lititz, Pennsylvania, Meyers currently resides in
Providence.
