Field Hockey Defeated at Monmouth, 9-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Brown field hockey team was defeated by Monmouth, 9-0, at "So Sweet a Cat" Field on Sunday afternoon. Junior Maddie Ayles (Westwood, Mass.) made her fifth career defensive save in the contest, which moved her into a tie for sixth all-time at Brown in the category.

Monmouth (4-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening half with goals at 2:03 and 3:43 by Julie Laszio and Josephine van der Hoop, respectively. Ayles later registered her defensive save at 13:39, her first of the season.

Van der Hoop added her second tally of the game at 14:31 off a deflection following a corner to push the Hawks' lead to three. Monmouth generated four more goals in the period to take a 7-0 advantage into the break.

Meg Donahue added her third score of the game to open the second period's scoring at 63:51. Van der Hoop also added her third (65:56) to end the game's scoring.

Junior Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) closed out the contest with a career-high 12 saves while Christen Piersanti turned away two shots for Monmouth.

The Hawks doubled the Bears' chances in penalty corners for the contest, at 10-5. Freshman Anagha Nayak's (Ann Arbor, Mich.) three-game scoring streak came to a close on Sunday. The rookie had notched goals in her first three collegiate contests.

Brown (0-4) will next return home to Goldberger Family Field on Friday, Sept. 15 to square off against Siena in a 4:00 p.m. game before traveling to Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 17 for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
