Carla Johl Named Field Hockey Assistant Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown field hockey head coach Jill Reeve announced the hiring of Carla Johl as an assistant coach to the program on Thursday.

"I am thrilled to have Carla join our staff," said Reeve. "Her experiences and expertise will add an extra dimension to our team."

Johl comes to College Hill after three seasons as an assistant at Bryant. In 2016, Johl helped lead the Bulldogs to their first appearance in the MAAC Tournament since 2013, as the Bulldogs finished 4-2 in conference play. As the defense and goalie specialist coach, Johl coached two players to conference all-tournament team recognitions while three student-athletes were named to the MAAC First and Second Team. All 16 players that qualified for the MAAC All-Academic Team received the honor after the team boasted a 3.57 GPA, ranking fourth in the nation.

Since 2014, Johl has been the USA Futures Head Coach at the Bryant site, where she directs, hires and trains the coaching staff while also administering a nationwide training curriculum and evaluation of top athletes.

Johl has completed her USA Level 2 Coaching Certification and has attended national conferences, including the What Drives Winning Conference, NEC Women's Leadership Forum, USA National Coaches Forum and the NCAA Women's Academy.

Prior to Bryant, Johl spent 2014 as an assistant coach at the University of Toronto and was responsible for the Varsity Blue's practice planning, game day preparation, social media initiatives, recruitment events, and team building activities. She was also responsible for organizing the entire program's annual indoor field hockey tournament, helping develop the school's first local summer tournament. In addition to coaching, Johl was an assistant in the Sports Information and Multimedia departments.

While working at Toronto, Johl served as the manager for the Canadian's Women's Indoor National Team, which competed in the Pan Am Indoor Tournament in Uruguay. Her duties as manager included team finances, communication correspondence, event engagement, social media management and game film operations.

Prior to her stint at Toronto, Johl spent time at York University in Toronto, Midlands Regional Academy in New Zealand, and as a USA Futures Coach.

As a player, Johl was a standout defender and three-time All-MAC selection at Kent State from 2008-12. After her time at Kent State, Johl had stints with the Constantiaberg Premier Team in South Africa, the Midlands Academy Training Squad in New Zealand, and the Toros Women's Team in Toronto.
