Wendy Anderson, Former Brown Field Hockey and Lacrosse Coach, Passes Away

Providence, R.I. - The Brown University community is saddened by the passing of former Brown field hockey and lacrosse coach Wendy Anderson, who passed away this morning on Cape Cod after a 10-year battle with cancer.


Anderson coached at Brown from 1983-1997 and in 13 years as head coach led the field hockey team to three Ivy League Championships (1984, 1989, 1992).  She also directed the field hockey squad to its first ever ECAC Championship in 1989.  Her 1989 team posted an impressive 11-5-1 overall mark, setting a school record for wins in a single season.


A 1978 graduate of Springfield College, Anderson coached several national caliber student-athletes at Brown, including the Bears' first All-American, Christine Monteiro '93), and Under-21 National team member Lucia Duncan '99).


Anderson also coached the Brown lacrosse team from 1988-1992. She directed the 1991 team to a sixth place national ranking and produced two first team All-Americans (Suzanne Bailey '91 and Monique Kapitulik '91).


The family invites friends and relatives to celebrate Wendy's life on January 4, 2014 from 2 to 5 pm at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, So. Yarmouth, MA.
