Four Bears Earn All-Ivy Field Hockey Honors

PROVIDENCE, RI – Sophomores Clayton Christus (Bernardsville, NJ), Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, MA) and Meghan O'Donnell (Winchester, MA), and freshman Alexis Miller (Caldwell, NJ) have earned 2012 All-Ivy honors in a vote by the League's eight head coaches. Christus and McSweeney headline the quartet, earning Second Team All-Ivy, while O'Donnell and Miller were named Honorable Mention All-Ivy. It marks the first All-Ivy selection for Christus, O'Donnell and Miller, while McSweeney earned the distinction for the second year in a row after receiving Honorable Mention All-Ivy in 2011.

A midfielder for the Bears, Christus started all 17 games and finished the season second on the team in scoring with 16 points (5g, 6a), while leading the Bears with six assists (10th in the Ivy League), a mark that ranks 15th all-time at Brown for assists in a season. She also recorded three defensive saves (4th in the Ivy League), second on the team. In two seasons, Christus has played in all 34 games, starting 30. She has 23 career points on eight goals and seven assists, including one game-winning goal.

McSweeney, a one-time Ivy League Player of the Week in 2012, started all 17 games for the second consecutive year, playing every minute of every game in net. She set a new Brown record for saves in a season with 185 (1st in the Ivy League) this year and also ranks sixth all-time at Brown in that category after stopping 160 shots a year ago. Her 10.88 saves per game mark led the country. McSweeney posted a 2.75 goals against average (5th in the Ivy League) and a .794 save percentage (7th in the nation & 2nd in the Ivy League) to go along with a 6-11 record and one shutout. In two seasons, she has a .758 career save percentage, which ranks ninth all-time at Brown.

O'Donnell finished as the Bears' leading scorer for the second straight season, posting 18 points, all on goals, after earning 8-1-17 points a year ago. Her nine goals this season (6th in the Ivy League), including three game-winners (2nd in the Ivy League), ranks 12th all-time at Brown for goals in a season. O'Donnell has played in all 34 games, starting 15, including 12 this year.

Miller played in 16 of Brown's 17 games, starting all 16, and finished her rookie campaign with 12 points (5g, 2a). A two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week, Miller helped to anchor the midfield and was a big component of the Bears' offensive corner unit.
