Field Hockey Travels to Quinnipiac for Mid-Week Non-League Contest

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown field hockey team (2-4) looks to get back on track with a mid-week game at Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon. The contest is a one-game break from League action, as the Bears resume Ivy competition this Saturday at home against Harvard. The Bears are coming off Saturday's loss to Dartmouth, as the Big Green twice came back from a one-goal deficit to earn a 3-2 victory over Brown. Freshman Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, CA) led the Bears with a goal and an assist, while sophomore Clayton Christus (Bernardsville, NJ) also scored as both Rogers and Christus notched their third goals of the year.

ABOUT BROWN: After winning back to back games against Vermont (3-2) and Colgate (4-2) in early Septemebr, the Bears have dropped three straight, falling to Bryant (2-0), Columbia (4-1), and Dartmouth (3-2). Sophomore Clayton Christus (Bernardsville, NJ) and freshman Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, CA) continue to pace the team in scoring with 3-1-7 totals each. Sophomore Haley Alvarez (Martinsville, NJ) adds 1-1-3 numbers, while four other players have scored one goal. Junior Kelsey Grossman (Shavertown, PA) has a team-high three defensive saves, while classmate Charlotte Small (Summit, NJ) adds two, and Christus and freshman Galen Rohn (Darien, CT) each have one. Sophomore Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, MA) has played every minute in net and has a 3.67 GAA with a .741 save percentage, recording 63 saves on 85 shots.

Brown topped Quinnipiac, 3-2, in just the third-ever meeting between the schools last year at Warner Roof. After falling behind, 1-0, just 8:44 into the game, the Bears responded with three unanswered goals by three different players to take a 3-1 lead with 18 minutes left in the game. Meghan O'Donnell '15 (Boxborough, MA) scored her fifth of the year, while Kit Masini '12 tallied her first and Clayton Christus '15 (Bernardsville, NJ) added her second. The Bobcats' goals came from Kimberly Cunniff and Jess Rusin. Shannon McSweeney '15 (Boxborough, MA) made six saves to earn the win, while Nicole Lewis stopped seven shots in the Quinnipiac net.  

ABOUT QUINNIPIAC: The Bobcats are 5-4 on the season and come into Wednesday's game following a 3-2 win over American on Sunday. The victory over American snapped a two-game skid, during which the Bobcats fell to Lafayette (4-2) and Maine (5-3). Quinnipiac is currently led by Jess Rusin (5g, 4a) and Jennalise Taylor (6g, 2a), who both have 14 points. Kristin Engelke adds 7 points (3g, 1a), while Danielle Allan rounds out the top four scorers with 5 points (2g, 1a). Seven other players have earned at least one point on the season, including Lauren Zimniski, who shares the team lead with four assists. Nicole Lewis has played the majority of time in net for the Bobcats and has a 1.67 GAA and a .755 save percentage in eight games, all starts. Megan Conaboy has played in two games, starting one, and has a 4.10 GAA with a .643 save percentage.

UP NEXT: After two straight away games, Brown returns home this weekend to host Harvard in an Ivy contest Saturday at noon. The contest is part of a weekend double-header, as the Bears return to the field on Sunday at noon when they host Fairfield in a non-league contest.
