PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown field hockey freshman Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, MA) has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 9th. McSweeney was instrumental in helping to lead the Bears to a pair of non-league wins, as Brown was 2-0 for the week. For the week, McSweeney posted 13 saves, a 1.50 GAA and a .813 save percentage.
On Tuesday against Quinnipiac, a 3-2 win, McSweeney stopped six shots with three in each half, including two during the final seven minutes of play with the Bobcats pressing for the equalizer. On Sunday against Fairfield, McSweeney made seven saves, five of which came in the second half. Her strong performance helped the Bears build a 2-0 lead en route to their first road win of the season. For the year, McSweeney now has a league-leading 106 saves, a mark that already ranks 13th all-time at Brown for saves in a season.
Brown returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Princeton in a 12:00 noon match.
