Zysk and Springmeyer Score for Bears in 4-2 Loss at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT - Junior Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) scored her fifth goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining, but Quinnipiac (4-6) would net two goals on penalty corners in the game's final 10 minutes to earn a 4-2 victory over the Brown field hockey team (2-7) Tuesday afternoon at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Turf Complex.

The Bobcats grabbed a 1-0 lead just 6:26 into the contest when Kristen Engelke put away a pass from Kaitlyn Notarianni on Quinnipiac's first shot of the game.

However, senior Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) responded with her second goal of the year less than 10 minutes later when she converted a pass from junior Abigail Taft (Shaker Heights, OH) at the 15:02 mark, tying the score at 1-1. The goal was the 16th of her career, as she moved into 11th all-time at Brown for career goals.

The score remained 1-1 through the end of the first half and into the second, before Kimberly Cunniff broke the tie when she scored on a direct shot on a Quinnipiac corner at 50:58.

Less than five minutes later, at 55:56, Springmeyer took control of the ball in front of Quinnipiac goalie Nicole Lewis and started to dribble away from the cage before spinning and blasting a shot by Lewis to tie the game at 2-2. The goal was the 23rd of her career, as she moved into 5th all-time at Brown for career goals.

Cunniff would again break the tie, scoring on another direct shot on a Bobcats' corner for the 3-2 lead. With less than a minute to play, MacKenzie Liptak tallied Quinnipiac's fourth goal on another corner for the 4-2 final.

For the game, both teams tallied 11 shots, while Quinnipiac earned nine corners to Brown's three. Junior Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) stopped two shots in 63:44, before giving way to sophomore Alexis Aurigemma (Wilmington, DE).

Brown will look to rebound this weekend with a pair of home games against Davidson (Saturday at 2:00) and Maine (Sunday at 3:00).
