NEW YORK, NY - Looking to extend its winning streak to three games, the Brown field hockey team (2-3, 0-1) couldn't get past Columbia (2-2, 1-0) in its 2009 Ivy League opener on Saturday afternoon, as the Lions earned a 2-0 victory.
The Lions went ahead just 12 minutes into the game when Catherine Campbell converted on one of Columbia's four first-half penalty corners.
Despite earning four penalty corners of their own, the Bears failed to generate much offense during the first 35 minutes, as Columbia held a 5-1 advantage in shots during the half.
The Lions dominated the second half, outshooting Brown, 17-2, and earning 11 corners to Brown's one. Just 7:21 after halftime, Campbell put Columbia ahead by two goals, converting on another corner to account for the 2-0 final.
For the game, sophomore Caroline Washburn (Pittsburgh, PA) finished with four saves. Brown returns to action on Wednesday, September 23, when it hosts Sacred Heart at 4:00 p.m.
