Brown graduate Rachel Anderson '00 (Darien, CT) was recently named the USRowing's 2003 Female Athlete of the Year. Anderson stroked the lightweight women's double sculls to a fourth-place finish at the 2003 FISA World Rowing Championships in Milan, Italy and consequently qualified the United States for the event at the 2004 Olympics.
Anderson also won this year's U.S. National Selection Regatta and finished fifth at the world cup stop in Munich, Germany. A two-time national team member, Anderson won a gold medal at the 1999 World Championships in the women's lightweight pair.
While at Brown, Anderson was a team captain as well as a member of two NCAA National Champion teams. She also won the Varsity Eights in 1999 and 2000 at the National Championships. Anderson was a member of the All-Time First-Team All-Ivy League team for 1999 and 2000 as well as an Academic All-Ivy selection in 2000.
She currently lives in Kingston, N.J. and trains at USRowing's Princeton Training Center. Anderson is looking forward to the U.S. trials, where she will have to win in order to earn a berth on the 2004 Olympic Team.
