Portia Johnson McGee Named To US Olympic Team

Providence, RI - Portia Johnson McGee '01, who won two national championships while rowing for the Brown crew, will represent the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, rowing for the United States in the Women's Pair.
Rowing at the 2008 Olympic Games begins August 9 and runs through August 17. Finals are set for August 16-17. The competition will take place at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park, located in Mapo Town in the Shunyi district of Beijing.
While at Brown, Portia was a member of the Brown varsity eight that placed first at the 1999 and 2000 NCAA Championship, and second at the 2001 NCAA Championships. As a team, Brown won the NCAA title in 1999 and 2000.
A four-time senior national team member and first-time Olympian, Portia was named USRowing's 2007 Female Athlete of the Year. She won bronze in the pair at the 2008 FISA World Cup stop in Lucerne, captured gold in the four and finished seventh in the pair at the 2007 FISA World Championships. She also won gold in the eight at the 2007 FISA World Cup stop in Lucerne.
