Brown Women's Crew Wins Henley Women's Regatta

Henley-on-Thames, England - The Brown women's crew claimed the Elite Eight Sports Council Cup after taking first place at the 2007 Henley Women's Regatta on Sunday. The Bears wrapped-up the three-day event by defeating Ivy League opponent, Radcliffe,, on Sunday afternoon. The Bears now hope to compete for the Remenham Challenge Trophy at the Men's Henley Royal Regatta.
The Bears finished in first 1.75 lengths ahead of Radcliffe. Junior coxswain Sarah Wu (North Andover, MA), sophomore stroke Jessica Stage (Alexandria, VA), junior Vanessa Rathbone (New Canaan, CT) in seat seven, sophomore Joanna Jacob (Berkeley, CA) in seat six, senior Devorah West (Santa Fe, NM) in five, sophomore Corey Finnerty-Ludwig (Seattle, WA) in four, junior Emma Olson (New Haven, CT) in the third seat, senior Alexandra Hammer (Chestnut Hill, MA) in the second seat, and senior Rachel Dearborn (Santa Monica, CA) at bow made up the varsity eight.
Brown defeated University College Dublin with a time of 4:58, and then beat Cambridge University with a 5:17 to face Radcliffe in the finals. Brown will now try to compete for the Remenham Challenge Trophy at the Men's Henley Royal Regatta from July 4-8. Out of the 14 women's crews entered, only eight will be given the chance to compete.
