Providence, RI - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced its All-Region teams for the 2007 season, as well as its National Scholar Athlete award winners that recognized five members of the Brown women's crew. Seniors Rachel Dearborn (Santa Monica, CA) and Alexandra Hammer (Chestnut Hill, MA) received First Team All-New England honors, while senior Elizabeth Fison (Anchorage, including senior Jeanette Saraidaridis (Reading MA) were also named National Scholar Athletes.
The CRCA awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers, both on the water and in the classroom, from each of the five Division I regions. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have participated in 75 percent of the team's spring races to qualify for the scholar athlete award.
This is Dearborn's second appearance on the First Team All-Region, and third consecutive year she has earned National Scholar Athlete status. She has competed in the varsity eight boat since her freshman year.
Fison, West, Hammer and Dearborn each helped the Bears to a second-place finish at the EAWRC springs in Camden, NJ. They, along with the rest of the Brown crew, will be looking to capture its fifth national championship this coming weekend at the Division I Women's Rowing Championship in Oak Ridge, TN.
