Princeton, NJ - A fourth place finish in the women's varsity eights highlighted an exciting day of racing for Brown at the Princeton Chase in New Jersey this afternoon. The Bears entered four boats in the women's open eights, as they brought in a fourth place, 11th place, 20th place, and a 33rd place finish.
Brown "A" posted the Bears' best finish of the day with a 14:47.564 for fourth place. Brown "B" came in 11th with a 15:17.558, followed by Brown "C" in 20th with a 15:44.668. Rounding out the Bears' crews was Brown "D" with a 16:11.280 in 33rd place.
On Friday, USRowing announced the winners of its 2007 Annual Awards, as Brown women's crew coaches John and Phoebe Murphy were awarded with the Ernestine Bayer Award.
The award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to women's rowing. Under the Murphy's leadership, Brown has become the winningest program in NCAA Championship history, claiming five rowing team championships in the last 10 years including the 2007 NCAA Championship in Oak Ridge, Tenn. In addition, the Bears have placed in the top three in the team standings at every NCAA Championship since its inception in 1997. The 2007-08 season marks John's 24th and Phoebe's 22nd year at Brown.
