Princeton, N.J. - The Brown women enjoyed a solid debut to their season on Saturday afternoon, facing off against Princeton and Michigan. The Bears were especially impressive in fours, taking first in the varsity four, and picking up each of the top two spots in the second varsity four.
In the initial race of the day, the varsity eight finished third behind the Tigers and Wolverines. Michigan crossed the line first, with a time of 6:46, with Princeton and Brown close behind at 6:49 and 6:51 respectively. The Bears then followed that with a second place finish in the second eight, finishing behind Michigan once again with a time of 7:00.
In the varsity four, Brown took a convincing win, crossing the line in 7:33, followed by Michigan at 6:39 and Princeton at 7:42. The Bears were solid in the second varsity four also, taking first and second at 8:01 and 8:04 respectively. The second boat was particularly exciting, edging out Princeton by only half a second for the runner up position. Brown also finished second in the final event of the day, the freshman eight, finishing at 7:03, just three seconds behind Michigan.
The Bears will be back in action on April 4, when they travel to Boston to take on Radcliffe.
