Women’s Crew Garners Four All-Americans to Highlight CRCA Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following a third-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships, Brown women's crew captured 20 awards from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association, highlighted by four All-Americans and Head Coach John Murphy's fourth career CRCA New England Regional Coach of the Year selection.

Senior Louise Breen (North Hampton, N.H.) and sophomore Muriel Solberg (Rockford, Ill.) were named to the Pocock All-American First Team, while juniors Rachel Gottlieb (Bow, N.H.) and Molly Sandza (Washington, D.C.) landed on the All-American Second Team. Brown's most All-Americans since five were selected in 2011, the quartet marks the team's first All-Americans since Allison Courtin '12 and Tessa Gobbo '13 were honored in 2012.

Along with four All-Americans and Murphy's recognition, the Bears tallied 10 Scholar Athletes and five All-Region picks.

Breen and Solberg also landed on the New England All-Region First Team, while Gottlieb, Sandza and sophomore Logan Harris (Stinson Beach, Calif.) were chosen for the All-Region Second Team.

Ten rowers were tabbed Scholar Athletes for their performance on the water while maintaining a 3.5 cumulative grade point average: sophomore Emma Betuel (East Hampton, N.Y.), Breen, Gottlieb, Harris, sophomore Anna Johnson (Lausanne, Switzerland), sophomore Birch Malotky (Minnetonka, Minn.), junior Katherine McKeen (Piedmont, Calif.), sophomore Lucia Petty (Hong Kong, China), Sandza and Solberg. 
 
Murphy receives the CRCA Regional Coach of the Year award for the fourth time in his career, dating back to 2000, 2002 and 2008.
