Women’s Crew Climbs to No. 1 in Latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll
April 16, 2014 CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following a second-place finish at last weekend's Lake Natoma Invitational, the Brown women's crew team jumped to No. 1 in the nation in Wednesday's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Collegiate Rowing Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells.
The Bears received 12 first place votes to climb from their sixth-place position last week, overthrowing the University of California from its previous top spot. Brown finished just 3.6 seconds off the lead against the Golden Bears in Sunday's varsity eight race after edging Cal in the second varsity eight and varsity four.
Brown earns the top spot in the national poll for the first time since April 10, 2007, foreshadowing the team's fifth NCAA Championship, which it won on May 27, 2007, at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The Bears are back in action this Saturday when they host Boston University. The third varsity eight is scheduled to start at 10:40 a.m.
