Coco Schoeller Selected to Represent United States at World Rowing Under 23 Championships

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND - Coco Schoeller (West Palm Beach, FL), a rising junior on the Brown women's crew team, was selected to represent the United States at the 2013 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, as announced by USRowing on July 17. The competition, held in Linz, Austria, will run from July 24 to July 28.

"Competing at this level of rowing is so exciting," said Schoeller, "particularly because this U23 team is made up of athletes from all over the country. I have learned so much from the national team coaches and from my teammates - by taking the different strengths from all of our programs we have all become better rowers and better racers."

Schoeller earned a spot in the women's eight based on her performance during the U23 National Team Selection Camp. The invitation-only camp was held from June 5 to June 23 in Princeton, New Jersey and it allowed 26 of the most elite collegiate rowers in the country to battle it out for a spot on the U23 National Team.

"The selection process was long and difficult," said Schoeller, "but also so much fun. The racing experience I've gained from Brown was tremendously helpful coming into this process. Having new teammates that you've never seat raced before makes for great racing. I also think that it's amazing - we were all able to come together as one team even though people are from all over. Everyone has immense respect for each other here, and we are all supportive of each others goals; the work ethic athletes have here is inspiring."

With the selections made and former competitors now bonding as teammates, Schoeller and the rest of the team are settling into life in Austria as they prepare for racing to begin on Wednesday.

"Making the U23 W8+ has been one of the best experiences of my life so far." said Schoeller. "It has been so exciting and so rewarding. As a group we have put in so much hard work and so many meters on the water and on the erg, and I look forward to seeing everything we've done pay off in the next week and a half. I absolutely can not wait to represent the USA and Brown at U23 Worlds."
