Brown Women's Crew Set to Take on the Ivy League

Ivy League Championship Central - Heat & Lane Assignments

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – On Sunday morning, the #12 Brown women's crew team will take on the rest of the Ancient Eight schools in the 2013 Ivy League Women's Rowing Championships. Held at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, New Jersey, the competition seeks to determine which of the crews are the best in the conference and among the fastest in the country.

Brown enters the second Ivy League Championships on the heels of a strong performance at the Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints. The Bears won three of the four events contested at the regatta, held just two weeks ago on the Cooper River, to earn the Charles G. Willing Jr. team trophy for the tenth time in the program's history and the first time since 2008.

This weekend, both morning heats and afternoon finals will be contested on the six-lane buoyed course to determine the victorious crews. The top overall team performance will earn the Team Trophy and the winning varsity eight will receive the Sally P. Shoemaker Trophy and the league's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships. Brown will be entered in the Third Varsity C Four, the Third Varsity B Four, the Third Varsity A Four, the Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Eight.

Brown women's crew has won eight Ivy League titles in its history, with the first coming in 1988. The Bears will look to win their first league championship since 2008 this weekend, and hope to earn their 17th consecutive bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships.
