Brown Women’s Crew Ready to Defend NCAA Crown

 

Princeton, N.J. – The defending NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Champions are primed to retain their national title this weekend on Lake Mercer as Brown takes on 15 on the country's best at the 2012 Championship on May 25-27 in West Windsor, N.J. Head coach John Murphy and the Bears will look to capture their fourth title in six years and eighth in the 16-year history of the NCAA Championship.

Brown's varsity eight, second varsity and varsity four boats will all be in action tomorrow as they begin their heats. Reps will also take place on Friday, with the semifinals on Saturday and finals (petite and grand) on Sunday.

Bruno will be paired in its heat with Ivy League rivals Radcliffe and Yale along with Pac-12 powerhouse Washington and ACC Champion Virginia in the first heast of the V8.

In the second varsity, Brown faces Wisconsin and three West Coast boats in UCLA, California and USC.

The varsity four will race in the third heat against USC, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Yale.

The rest of the championship field includes Cornell, Michigan, Michigan State, Princeton and Stanford.
