PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Saturday afternoon on the Seekonk River, the home course of the defending national champion Brown Women's Crew, the Bears topped Ivy League rival Yale in the varsity eight race. Both teams enjoyed good conditions with a moderate cross-wind as both the V8 and third varsity boats were victorious.
In the varsity race at 600-meter mark with Brown leading by six seats both, crews were struck by a boat wake. The Bears and Bulldogs handled it well and when they were through the wake the margin had not changed.
Brown maintain its six-seat advantage through the finish line to win with a time 6:20.5, over two seconds ahead of Yale.
Bruno's third varsity boat showed its speed as well, topping their Yale counterparts by nearly seven seconds, crossing the line in 6:56.4.
Despite the big win by the Bears's varsity eight boat, Yale remained strong taking both the second varsity and varsity four races. '
