Brown’s Varsity Eight Speeds Past Radcliffe

Providence, R.I. – The defending NCAA Champion Brown women's crew was in action on Saturday afternoon on the Seekonk River, taking on Ivy League rival Radcliffe. The varsity eight boat for the Bears posted the fastest time of the day, finishing in 6:16.0 to best Harvard's top boat.

There were four races on Saturday as the varsity four and top three varsity eight boats were in action. Brown came away with the top win and the fastest time in the V8 race.

In a tight race between the two varsity eight boats, Bruno came away with the win, closing at the end with a near three and a half second win over Radcliffe.

Brown was topped by Radcliffe in close races in the 2V8, 3V8 and V4, however. In two back-and-forth contests, the Bears could not catch the Crimson in the end. The third varsity boat crossed in 6:56.4, just two second behind the Cambridge eight.

The Bears were six seconds off the pace in both the second varsity eight and varsity four races.

Weather was a factor on Saturday in Providence as snow fell early in Rhode Island, later blending into sleet and rain with a tailwind playing a factor.

Brown returns to the water on April 7, with a an in-state matchup at the University of Rhode Island.
