Brown Crew Well Represented at CRASH-B’s
Boston, Mass. – Both the Brown men's and women's crew were well represented the CRASH-B Sprints, the would indoor rowing championships at the Agganis Arena in Boston, as several Bears posted top times. Rowers from all around the world compete in the championships, including student-athletes from many of the college teams that Brown races against in the spring.
Junior women's rower Tessa Gobbo won the U-23 division and placed fourth overall in the women's open class with a time of 6:50.8.
"CRASH-B's was a really exciting experience this year, as it was my last year in the U-23 division, so I was putting a lot of pressure on this race for myself," said Gobbo. Many of my other teammates did really well too, which sets a great tone for our racing season. I'm excited for our team to race against Princeton and Michigan in a month."
Senior Alex Fleming (5:58.6) placed third overall while sophomore Vyacheslav Chupryna (5:59.5) was fifth overall and second in the U-23 category. Brown had four rowers in the top eight places of the competition, with senior Ben Dann (6:00.9), who rowed for the US U-23 team this past summer posting a personal best, and freshman Whiting Tennis (6:01.2) also posting personal best, finishing eighth.
"I always want to bring pride and honor to my family, country and program when racing and the Crash-B's were a great opportunity to do that," said Chupryna.
There were over 2,200 entrants from more than a dozen countries, with competitors ranging in age from 14 to 91.
