Women’s Crew Standouts Courtin & Gobbo Named CRCA All-Americans
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the 2011 Pocock All- America award winners and Brown women’s crew rowers Allison Courtin ‘12 (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Tessa Gobbo ‘13 (Chesterfield, N.H.) were both honored. Both Courtin and Gobbo were in the Bears’ varsity eight boat for the past two years, including Bruno’s national championship victory last season.

Brown Women’s Crew Places 14th at 2012 Division I NCAA Championship
On Championship Sunday at Lake Mercer, the Brown University Women’s Crew finished 14th overall at the 2012 NCAA Division I Regatta. The Bears totaled 25 team points with its second varsity eight boat finishing third in the petite final, the varsity eight taking bronze in the third level final and the varsity four earning second in its third final. It was the 16th-consecutive season that the Bears advanced to the NCAA Championship.

Tight Race Sends Brown To Petite Final on Championship Sunday
The Brown women’s crew second varsity boat was in action on Saturday morning at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s Crew Championship on Lake Mercer, and was involved in one of closest finishes of the tournament thus far. California, Princeton, Virginia and Brown all finished within four seconds of each other as the Bears placed fourth to move on to the Petite Final on Championship Sunday.

Brown Women’s Crew Ready to Defend NCAA Crown
The defending NCAA Division I Women’s Rowing Champions are primed to retain their national title this weekend on Lake Mercer as Brown takes on 15 on the country’s best at the 2012 Championship on May 25-27 in West Windsor, N.J. Head coach John Murphy and the Bears will look to capture their fourth title in six years and eighth in the 16-year history of the NCAA Championship.

Brown Second Varsity Advances to NCAA Women’s Division I Semifinals
The Brown University Women's Crew faced a tough field in its 16th-straight NCAA Championship on Lake Mercer, but the Bears second varsity boat finished third overall in its heat to advance to tomorrow's semifinals. Bruno's varsity eight and varsity four boats were in action twice, racing in both their heat and the repechage.

Brown Women’s Crew Receives Two CRCA All-Region Selections & Seven Scholar-Athletes
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the 2012 Division I All-Region award-winners and the CRCA Scholar-Athletes. These awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections. Brown women’s crew was honored with three all-region selections and seven scholar-athletes.

Brown Women’s Crew Selected to NCAA Rowing Championship; Bears Look to Defend Their National Title
The defending national champs will have a chance to defend its title as the NCAA announced on Tuesday evening that the Brown women’s crew has been selected to compete at the 2012 Division I Rowing Championship on May 25-27, on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. Head coach John Murphy has led the Bears to an appearance in every NCAA tournament since its inception, 16 years ago.

Brown Women’s Crew Primed For Inaugural Ivy League Championship
The defending National Champs begin postseason competition this weekend when the Brown Women’s Crew competes in the inaugural Ivy League Championship on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. With all eight Ivy’s competing, the Bears will be looking to solidify a return trip to the NCAA Division I Championship and its first Ivy League title since 2008. Bruno has won eight Ivy Championships, with their first coming in 1988.

Brown Finishes Fifth at Inaugural Ivy Championship
The Brown women’s crew team racked up two silver medals at the inaugural Ivy League Championship on the Cooper River, earning second overall in both the third varsity eight and the second varsity eight races. The Bears boasted the top time of any varsity eight in the prelims, but finished fifth overall in the grand finale. Radcliffe took the Ivy title, winning V8 race, while Princeton earned the point trophy.

No. 10 Brown Women's Crew Varsity Eight Tops No. 11 Yale
On Saturday afternoon on the Seekonk River, the home course of the defending national champion Brown Women's Crew, the Bears topped Ivy League rival Yale in the varsity eight race. Both teams enjoyed good conditions with a moderate cross-wind as both the V8 and third varsity boats were victorious.

Brown Women’s Crew Claims Dunn Bowl with Win Over Cornell & Columbia
The No. 10 Brown women’ crew continued its winning ways on Saturday at No. 16 Cornell as the Bears varsity eight boat was victorious over the Big Red by over two seconds to claim the Dunn Bowl. Bruno’s second varsity and third varsity boats also picked up wins at Cornell in a dual meet versus the Big Red and Columbia.

Brown Women’s Crew Wins its Group at Lake Natoma Invitational
The Brown women’s crew returned to Sacramento State Aquatics Center, the site of the Bears 2011 Division I National Championship, taking part in the Lake Natoma Invitational. Competing mainly against Washington State and Texas, Bruno had several impressive races.

Defending National Champs Top In-State Rival URI
For the first time Brown traveled away from the Seekonk River to face the University of Rhode Island on Saturday morning. Despite an impressive headwind, the Bears took all four races on the day, which included the varsity eight, second varsity, third varsity and varsity four boats.

Brown’s Varsity Eight Speeds Past Radcliffe
The defending NCAA Champion Brown women’s crew was in action on Saturday afternoon on the Seekonk River, taking on Ivy League rival Radcliffe. The varsity eight boat for the Bears posted the fastest time of the day, finishing in 6:16.0 to best Harvard’s top boat.

Brown Starts 2012 Schedule with Major Challenge Against No. 3 Princeton & No. 9 Michigan
The reigning NCAA Division I champs started off the 2012 season with a tough challenge at No 3 Princeton with No. 9 Michigan also making the trip. No. 4 Brown placed second in the varsity four and the 3V8, but could not push past the speed of the Wolverines and Tigers in the varsity eight and second varsity eight.

Brown to Host Radcliffe on Saturday, March 31
After opening the 2012 season at Princeton on March 24, taking on the Tigers and the Michigan Wolverines, the Brown women's crew will have their first home race on Saturday, March 31, against Radcliffe.

Brown Women’s Crew to Christen New Boat
The Brown women’s crew will welcome a new member to the family on Saturday, March 10, at 11:30 p.m., as they will have a boat christening at the Marston Boathouse in Providence, R.I. The boat will be named in honor of Roseanne Flynn, mother of Christine Flynn ’08, and former head of the Brown Women’s Crew Parents Group.

Brown Crew Well Represented at CRASH-B’s
Both the Brown men’s and women’s crew were well represented the CRASH-B Sprints, the world indoor rowing championships at the Agganis Arena in Boston, as several Bears posted top times. Rowers from all around the world compete in the championships, including student-athletes from many of the college teams that Brown races against in the spring.

Murphy Set to Accept USRowing Collegiate Coach of the Year Award at Black-tie Affair in NYC
Brown head women’s crew coach John Murphy will be honored tonight by USRowing at the inaugural Golden Oars Awards Dinner, presented by One Equity Partners/JPMorgan Chase & Co., at the New York Athletic Club in New York City. Murphy won the “Fan’s Choice” award as the collegiate coach of the year.

Brown Posts Strong Showing at the Foot of the Charles
In their final tune-up of the year, battling 15 mph winds that increased throughout the day, sub-50 degree weather and a competitive field, the Brown women’s crew took a first- and second-place finish it the two races it entered boats into. Its varsity four finish second, while the varsity eight finished first overall.

Bears Take On Impressive Field at Princeton Chase
Brown women’s crew competed for the second-straight week, traveling to New Jersey to take part in the annual Princeton Chase. The women's field was an impressive one and featured the last two NCAA champions--Brown and Virginia--and the last two programs to win the varsity eight final at NCAAs--Princeton and Yale.

Brown Begins Title Defense at Head of the Charles
The 2011 Division I NCAA Champion Brown Women’s Crew was in action for the first time since winning the title last season at the 47th annual Head of the Charles Regatta, the world’s largest two-day rowing event. Brown entered four boats into an impressive field of stiff competition and showed good speed on a great day for racing.

2011 Women’s Crew NCAA Division I Championship Team Honored at Halftime of Governor’s Cup Game
The 2011 Women’s Crew Division I Championship team was honored at halftime of Saturday’s “Governor’s Cup” Game between Brown and URI. Over 20 members of the team were at midfield along with head coach John Murphy, associate head coach Phoebe Murphy, Athletic Director Michael Goldberger and University President Ruth J. Simmons.
