Women's Crew Leads Nation With 11 CRCA Scholar Athletes; Five Bears Named to All-Region Team

Providence, RI - The CRCA recently announced its 2010 Scholar Athlete list, with Brown leading all Division I schools with 11 student-athletes named.  To be eligible for inclusion, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of eligibility, have rowed a minimum of 75% of races in an NCAA eligible boat, and have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA through the current year.  Additionally, the Bears had five rowers named to the CRCA All-Region Team, including Hannah Malvin and Lauren Libfraind, who were First Team selections.

Brown's 11 recognized student-athletes include: Rebecca Fein, Anne Hooper, Casey Kelsey, Lauren Libfraind, Hannah Malvin, Laura McClellan, Katie Rand, Hope Richardson, Beatrice Sims, Anna Vresilovic, and Petra Weiss.

Proving that the Bears are equally as talented on the water, Brown also had the maximum of five rowers named to the first and second All-Region Teams.  Malvin and Libfraind were each named to the First Team, as Bruno was second among all New England schools with two top team selections.  They were joined by Corlis Gross, Richardson, and Fein on the Second Team, as Brown was one of just two schools to have all five nominees recognized.

Brown will look to capture an unprecedented seventh national championship this weekend in Sacramento at the NCAA Championships. In the 13 championships since the event began in 1998, Brown has never finished lower than fifth in the country, including a stretch of 12 consecutive top-three finishes.  With another championship this season, the current seniors would join the Class of 2002 as the only student-athletes in Brown history with three national championships during their career.
