Off to its best start in the program's 30 year history, Brown will travel to West Point, NY to take on Army on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.Brown has never lost to Army, holding a 5-0 series advantage. The Bears last win over the Black Knights came during the 2002-03 season with Brown picking up a 69-62 win at Christi Arena.
Brown captured the 2004 Brown Classic with a 69-61 win over Lehigh at the Pizzitola Center on Sunday. The victory was the Bears sixth straight as they improve to 6-1 on the season. Tournament MVP Holly Robertson `05 and Sarah Hayes '06, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, combined for 42 points in the win. Brown last won the tournament back in 1999. Robertson finished with a season-high 22 points, including 6-6 from the line, and 12 rebounds in the win over Lehigh. Hayes added a season-high 20 points along with four steals and four rebounds.
The Bears advanced to the championship game with a 69-61 over WInthrop on Saturday. Robertson led Brown with 15 points. Last Wednesday the Bears defeated in-state rival Rhode Island, 68-66, on a lay-up by sophomore Lena McAfee with two seconds. left. Robertson posted 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
Robertson, who was also the MVP of the Binghamton Tourney, leads the Bears with 16.6 points and the Ivy League with 10.6 rebounds this season. Junior Colleen Kelly is averaging 13.0 points and leads the Ivy League with 4.1 assists per game. Hayes is also posting double-digits with 11.4 points and a league-high2.3 steals per contest.
Army is 3-3 on the year after dropping a 73-63 decision to Georgetown on Friday. Sophomore Jen Hansen leads the Black Knights with 10.8 points per outing. Senior Lindsay Brent is averaging a team-high 8.8 boards per game.
