Brown Athletics to Host "Toys for Tots" Events
Dec. 4, 2008
Providence, R.I. - Brown University Athletics is teaming up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for the Annual Toys for Tots Drive. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
Brown has scheduled six opportunities for people to contribute to Toys for Tots this month. If fans bring a new, unwrapped toy to any of these events, they will be admitted to the game for free.
The six Toys for Tots games are:
Friday, December 5 - Men's Ice Hockey vs. Union 7:00pm
Friday, December 5 - Women's Basketball vs. LIU 7:00pm
Saturday, December 6 - Women's Basketball, LIU vs. UMASS 4:00pm
Saturday, December 6 -Men's Ice Hockey vs. RPI 7:00pm
Sunday, December 7 - Women's Basketball vs. UMASS 4:00pm
Tuesday, December 9 - Men's Basketball vs. Hartford 7:00pm
Brown's campaign culminates with the 2nd Annual Teddy Bear Toss during halftime of the men's basketball game against Hartford on December 9. All fans bringing a new teddy bear to this game will be admitted for free and be able to participate in the halftime contest. The winner of the Teddy Bear Toss will win an exclusive prize pack from many of Brown's corporate sponsors.
"This is a great program for the Bears to be involved with. It gives us the opportunity to give back to the community during this holiday season", said Brown University Athletic Director, Michael Goldberger.
