Providence, RI - Brown freshman guard Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week after leading the women's basketball team to an exciting 57-54 win over Columbia on Saturday night.
Johnson, who received her first-career start on Saturday, played 38 minutes and netted a career-high 16 points. She went 8-14 from the field, grabbed four rebounds and picked up three steals to give the Bears' their second Ivy League victory.
During Brown's 68-59 loss to Cornell the night before, Johnson came off the bench to score six points and dish out four assists in just 17 minutes of play. Overall, she is averaging 4.7 points and 2.0 rebounds for Brown (4-18, 2-6 Ivy) and is shooting 42 percent from the field. However, in conference play, Johnson is the Brown's third-leading scorer with 7.1 points while shooting 53 percent from the field.
The Bears are back in action this weekend, as the team travels to Harvard on Friday, Feb. 16 and Dartmouth on Saturday. Feb. 17 for 7:00 p.m. games.
