Bethlehem, PA - The Brown women's basketball team (1-10) dropped a 68-38 decision to Lehigh (6-6) on Saturday afternoon during the 11th annual Christmas City Classic. The Bears were led by Annesley O'Neal's (Franklin, GA) and Jaclyn Goldbarg's (San Diego, CA) 11 points, followed by sophomore Christina Johnson's (Oakland, CA) 10 points.
O'Neal was the Bears' spark in the first half, as she went four-for-four from the field for nine points, and Goldbarg connected on two three pointers to bring the score to 25-14 with 8:30 remaining in the half.
Lehigh built a 20-point lead heading into halftime, with Kaela Pearce leading the Mountain Hawks with 11 points converting three out of four treys and sinking two free-throws. Lehigh shot 47 percent from the field, and went eight-for-nine from the line.
The Mountain Hawks continued to pick apart Brown's defense in the second half, going on a 10-0 run to bring their lead to 60-31 with 10:09 left in the game. Johnson then went on to score Brown's next six points, putting the score at 65-37 with 3:52 remaining on the clock. Lehigh's Pearce added nine second half points to lead the Mountain Hawks in scoring with 20, and to end the game 68-38.
The Bears had three players in double-digit scoring, with O'Neal and Goldbarg with 11 points, and Johnson with 10. O'Neal and sophomore Natalie Bonds (Tavares, FL) each grabbed five rebounds, as sophomore Courtney Lee (Archer, FL) picked up three steals. The Mountain Hawks' Courtney Rich netted 10 points, and Courtney Dentler had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Brown will match up against Stony Brook tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. during the consolation game of the Christmas City Classic.
