Bears Suffer 81-54 Loss to Boston University

Boston, MA - The Brown women's basketball team (1-6) suffered an 81-54 loss to Boston University (4-4) at Case Gym on Wednesday evening. Leading Brown's offense was freshman Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) with 11 points as junior Natalie Bonds (Taveres, FL) added eight points and brought down five rebounds. Leading the Terriers tonight was senior guard Christine Kinneary with 18 points, while senior forward Jesyka Burks-Wiley netted 16.
With four seniors in the starting lineup, the Terriers came out of the gates firing as the squad lit up for 50 first-half points to take a 50-20 lead heading into the locker room at halftime. Leading Boston University in the first stanza was Burks-Wiley and Kristi Dini with 11 points each, while Kinneary added eight as the team shot 51 percent from the field.
Boston University dominated the boards, out-rebounding the youthful Bears 25-16 while also forcing Brown into 17 turnovers in the first half. Passafuime and Bonds led Bruno's scoring with six points a piece, while Courtney Lee (Archer, FL) tallied four.
The Bears came out with scrappy defense in the second half forcing BU into 12 turnovers, but the tough Terriers continued to build their lead with the help of Kinneary's 10 second-half points as the squad shot 55 percent for the game. Sophomore Betsy Jacobson (Rochester, NY) helped Brown's offense with a few nice jumpers from the paint, scoring seven points in the second half, as Passafuime chipped in with five. Brown did defeat the Terriers in the second half, outscoring the Terriers 34-31.
The Bears will now host the 17th annual Brown BEAR Basketball Classic from Friday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 7. Brown will match up with Long Island at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and then UMass on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
