PROVIDENCE, RI - Senior Rada Pavichevich (Norwood Park, IL) scored nine points in the final two minutes of the game, including a three-point bucket with 29 seconds left to give the Brown women's basketball team a 65-56 victory over Army in the first round of the Brown Classic at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday.
Pavichevich had a game-high 17 points and added 10 rebounds to earn a double-double for the afternoon. The senior was also seven of eleven from the field and handed out three assists.
Sophomore forward Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) also had a big game for the Bears with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks to solidify the inside effort. Also scoring in double figures was sophomore guard Stephanie Bruce (Summit, NJ) with 14 points, four rebounds and five assists. Senior Erin-Kate Barton (Portland, OR) rounded out the scoring for Brown (3-3) with eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore forward Katie Macfarlane (Clarence, NY) had a double-double for Army with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for the Black Knights were Christine Gassman (Newbury, NH) with 14 points and Christina Canelli (Medford, NJ) with 10 points.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Texas A&M Aggies (3-2) received 17 points and seven rebounds from junior Kim Moore (Havana, FL) as they earned a spot in the championship game with an exciting 76-72 come-from-behind victory over the Quinnipiac Braves (2-3).
Quinnipiac forward Sara Esidore (Portland, CT) scored a game-high 21 points for the Braves, who will meet Army in the consolation game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Also scoring in double figures for Quinnipiac was sophomore Ashlee Kelly (Pittsburgh, PA) who notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Brown will meet Texas A&M in the championship game tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
