Bears Lay Providence Down in Final Seconds

The Brown University Women's Basketball Team recorded its first win of the season as junior Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) laid the ball in with less than two seconds left in the game to make the score 64-62. Mitchell led the Bears with 26 points and 14 boards.

Freshman Colleen Kelly (Rochester, NY) netted 14 points and was three for five from behind the three point arc. With seventeen seconds left in the game freshman Ashley Van Kurin made one of two from the foul line to put the Bears up by two. With eleven seconds left in the game Providence tied the score at 62. Junior Tanara Golston then found Mitchell open under the basket for the lay-up and the win.

Golston recorded six points, four steals, and a team high seven assists, including one that won the game. Freshman Sarah Hayes added eight points and ten rebounds running the offense for the Bears.

The Bears will travel to Maine for the Maine Thanksgiving tournament November 29th and 30th. Brown faces host team Maine in the first round and will play either Montana or Drake on the second day.
