Providence, RI - The Brown women's basketball team kicked off the 2003-2004 season with a 69-52 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears were led by junior Holly Robertson with 19 points while senior Nyema Mitchell added 18.
Robertson poured in 13 points off the bench in the first half to give Brown a 37-26 advantage going into the locker room. Both Robertson and Mitchell were dominant forces in the paint throughout the game as they finished with a combined percentage of .700 on 16-23 shooting. Robertson also added nine rebounds and two blocks, while sophomore guard Sarah Hayes also added nine boards.
Senior Tanara Golston provided a huge defensive spark for Brown, posting six steals, which tied her career-high. Seven of her nine points came in the second half. Sophomore Colleen Kelly dished out a team-high five assists while senior Miranda Craigwell added seven points off the bench for the Bears.
The Bears held the Knights to just 35 percent shooting, compared to their 49 percent shooting from the field. Brown also out-rebounded Fairleigh 42-33 on the night. Brown will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at home versus Chicago-Illinois at 7 p.m.
