KINGSTON, RI - The Brown women's basketball team dropped a 66-45 decision to cross-state rival Rhode Island on Tuesday evening at Keaney Gymnasium.
Senior Yatar Kuyateh paced URI with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rams (2-0) to their second victory of the season.
The Bears (1-1) jumped out to an early advantage in the first half but fell behind after the Rams went on a 16-3 run to take a 33-24 lead at the half.
Leading the way for the Bears in the loss were freshman Holly Robertson (Cochrane, Alberta) with 9 points and 8 rebounds and sophomore Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) who scored 9 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Also contributing for the Bears was senior Rada Pavichevich (Norwood Park, IL) with 8 points and 2 rebounds and sophomore Miranda Craigwell (Weston, MA) who added 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Brown will compete at the University of Illinois-Chicago Tournament on Saturday, November 24 and Sunday, November 25. The Bears will face Alcorn State University in the first game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday the Bears will face either Air Force or the University of Illinois-Chicago with the consolation game set for 1:00 p.m. and the championship at 3:00 p.m.
