Final Stats

Providence, RI - Although the Bears (3-18, 1-6 Ivy) were able to cut their deficit to just three points with four minutes remaining in the competition, Cornell (9-11,5-2 Ivy) was able to nail free-throws down the stretch and win the game, 68-59.

The Big Red came out hot, as they lit up the Pizzitola Center shooting a stellar 59 percent in the first half. But the Bears, led by junior Annesley O'Neal's (Franklin, GA) eight first-half points, were able to keep the Big Red on their toes as the lead changed hands on five different occasions. Brown went nearly three minutes without scoring near the end of the first period, and headed into the locker room down 29-20.

Cornell jumped out to a quick 18-point lead in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but a jumper by freshman Courtney Lee (Archer, FL), a free throw by freshman Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) and a long three pointer by freshman Shae Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) brought the Bears within 11.

While the Big Red were held scoreless for two minutes, the Bears made their run with two free-throws by sophomore Amy Ehrhart,(Golden, CO) another trey by Fitzpatrick and two jumpers by senior Lena McAfee (Reston, VA) put Brown down, 54-50.

A lay-up by Johnson and a free-throw by Cornell's Lauren Benson, put the Bears within three, but that was as close as they would come, as Cornell converted on eight free throws down the stretch to give themselves a 68-59 edge over Brown.

Fitzpatrick led the Bears in scoring with 12 points (3-4 from the three), followed by McAfee with nine points and seven rebounds and Lee and O'Neal both chipped in with eight points.

Brown is back on the court tomorrow, when they take on the Columbia Lions (5-16, 1-6) at the Pizzitola Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
