The Brown University Women's basketball team holds onto their undefeated Ivy League record as the down Yale 70-55 today January 25, 2003 in the Pizzitola Gymnasium. The Bears improved their record to 8-7 overall.
The Bears went on a 16-0 run in the middle of the first half and went into the locker room up by 11 at the half. Yale came out strong in the second half and was on fire from behind the three point arc, and pulled to within five, but the Bears battled back and held onto their lead.
Brown was led by junior Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) who recorded her third double double of the season pulling down 13 boards and netting 16 points. Mitchell also recorded six blocked shots in the win.
Freshman Colleen Kelly (Rochester, NY) was unstoppable from three point range where she scored 12 of her 17 points. Kelly also grabbed seven steals. Sophomore Holly Robertson (Cochrane, Alberta) also scored in double digits recording 10 points.
Freshman Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) netted nine points, pulled down seven boards, and handed out seven assists in the win. Junior Miranda Craigwell (Boston, MA) added eight points and four boards as junior Tanara Golston accumulated six points, five assists, and four steals.
The Bears will continue Ivy League action this weekend as they host Cornell Friday evening and Columbia Saturday evening in the Pizzitola gymnasium.
